Gum Contouring

What is Gum Contouring?

Gum contouring is a surgical procedure that involves reshaping and sculpting a patient’s smile. Oftentimes, if a patient has teeth that are too short, this may result in a gummy smile. To correct this issue, gum contouring can be beneficial and can improve the appearance of your smile. Most patients who have uneven or overly exposed gum lines are candidates for the procedure.

Why do you need Gum Contouring?

In order to determine if you’re a good candidate for the procedure, we recommend that you come in for a consultation and examination. Some of the reasons you might consider gum contouring include:

  • You have a short “gummy” smile
  • Your gum line is uneven
  • You are unhappy with your smile

Most patients who want gum contouring are able to have the procedure done. This is an effective option to improve the appearance of your smile and boost your confidence.

What makes you a good candidate for Gum Contouring?

Patients who have uneven gum lines or teeth that appear too short can benefit from gum contouring. The procedure may be referred to as gum reshaping or tissue sculpting and can be done easily in our office. Gum contouring is a type of surgery, so healthy patients are better candidates for the procedure than those who might have health issues and concerns. In order to determine if you’re eligible for the procedure, you’ll need to come in for an exam and consultation.

What happens during the procedure for Gum Contouring?

Before being scheduled for a gum contouring procedure, you’ll need to come in for a consultation and exam. Once the scheduled procedure begins, the area to be reshaped will be numbed for your comfort. Dr. Brad Sammons will then use a variety of specialized tools to scrape and sculpt the gums to create a more even look. Once the procedure is finished, you will be sent home with aftercare instructions. It is important to follow all surgical aftercare instructions for optimal healing. Once healed, you can benefit from even, healthy-looking gums.
